Description

We will plan, deploy, monitor and evaluate a custom–designed PowerManagement system to control electric vehicle chargepoints on public and residential locations in 3 cities. The system allows fleet managers, site operators and other clients to set smart charging strategies to optimize for cost and clean energy. We will educate electric vehicle users on how environment friendly behaviour, eco–conscious charge patterns contribute to a successful energiewende (energy transition). We will translate and distribute the mobile applications and documentations with the user and administrator interfaces, generate reports that make the case for smart charging. Where applicable, locally sourced energy from distributed energy resources (DERs) such as rooftop solar PV–stations and connected battery storage will also be controlled by the power management system for peak–shaving and local balancing. A desirable outcome of our case studies is a real–life cost/benefit analysis of battery storage systems in a smart charging context and testing of the systems in respetive Living Labs (in Belgium, Czech and Turkey). Furthermore, we will also monitor power quality at the sites to gain a deep understanding of the impact of EV charging on the distribution network. In the aim to reduce CO2 and NOx emission in the cities, mobility is moving towards e-mobility. However, the higher demand for e-urban mobility leads to higher demand for e-charging stations. This project adresses City Club Challenge Cluster 5 a 7 (Improve the quality of public space and Avoid transition barriers). A more efficient use of parking and e-charging stations, will improve the public space. It will take space from parking and e-charging points free for a different usage of that area and can overcome hurdles in transitioning from the current mobility system in a city to a more desired future state (efficient and smart infrastructure for e-mobility).
